QF unions deaf to Dixon cutback call
Unions have dismissed a call by Qantas ceo Geoff Dixon for cuts in staff wages and less permanent and full-time employees.
Earlier this week, Dixon warned that the airline’s labour costs would have to be cut with or without union involvement.
He proposed employing more casual and contract staff and raised the possibility of moving jobs offshore.
ACTU secretary Greg Combet told AAP that despite the tough aviation environment Qantas was one of the best performing airlines in the world.
Combet predicted Qantas employees would be aiming in negotiations for a pay increase, better job security and better security for casual workers.
