At the risk of setting off an anorak frenzy:
Land the trailing mains.
Pitch down a few degrees.
Wait for the front mains to land.
NOW pull reverse.
Use elevator to make the nose gear landing gentle.
This will give you a near greaser every time - no thumps at all.
Pulling reverse is what slams the front mains down.
