It would take a pretty special deal from Airbus to convert the 787 options into A350 orders. That said, Boeing would probably make more money selling those 50 options elsewhere than what they've made from Qantas. I wonder if we would need to give them back their compo money for the late delivery of those 787s from the early days.

There is a HUGE gap between the 787 and the A380. A 777X in the mix there somewhere as a 744 replacement from 2020 or will they just get A380NEOs to cover that?

My guesses:
A couple more A380s
A shed load of 787s- initially for expansion and later to cover A330 replacement.
Maybe some options on 777X- better timeframe for QF than the A350.
Line ball call on 737 replacement as to whether to go A320 family or 737 MAX. Either way, new aeroplanes needed commencing from 2020 or thereabouts to replace 738.

It's the 738 replacement that is interesting. There is no doubt the A320 family (including the possibility of A319) adds significant flexibility to Qantas ops. I'm not sure how much training costs enter into their decision making and it won't be a small number but sometimes the bullet just has to be bitten.
