Prince Philip departed London 15th October 1956 on same route as Princess Margaret (LHR - Gib - Kano - Entebbe - Mombasa) in same BOAC Argonaut aircraft as Margaret.
AIRLINER DUE ON FRIDAY
FROM OUR AERONAUTICAL CORRESPONDENT
Princess Margaret will return from her African tour in the B.O.A.C. Argonaut airliner Ajax in which she made the outward journey. The same aircraft took the Duke of Edinburgh to Mombasa last week.
With some of the royal party on board, the Argonaut will set out from Nairobi on Thursday and land at Entebbe, Uganda, where the Princess will go on board. Their homeward flight will start at 3.45 p.m. G.M.T. (6.45 p.m. local time) [25th October] and will be made via Kano (Northern Nigeria) and Gibraltar. The airliner is due to land at London Airport at 4 p.m. on Friday [26th October].
Between Entebbe and Kano the Argonaut will be commanded by Captain R. E. Hallam, who will have a crew of eight, including three stewards and a stewardess. From Kano to London Captain C. B. Houlder will be in charge. The second captain will be Captain J. F. R. Jones, and the total crew will be nine.
Hope this helps.
