Its a great shame his writings don't cover Windows, but for those using Linux, Solaris, BSD or OS X, the various performance troubleshooting methodology guides from Brendan Gregg will easily provide a more authoritative process than needing to resort to dead foodstuffs. Lots of great stuff on his website.
