Pretty simple what happened.
Failed to maintain their own separation.
Blind spot to blind spot.
Higher machine can't see down and behind and the lower one cannot see up and left. Pilot in RH seat.
Sad operational fail.
PS Contrary to the statements preceding my guess is the tree is about 300 metres closer to the camera.
