Watching youtube videos on pprune

Oftentimes, when a fellow ppruner has posted a you tube, I have trouble.
Picture the scene. There's the youtube screenshot, with he play button in the middle.
When I click on the 'play' button, the screenshot disappears.
After a pause, the audio starts, but there's no video or picture displayed at all.
I'm using an ipad4.
Sometimes, if there's an address bar at the top of the linked to video, it plays normally.
What is causing this?
