Well having planned to fly up on Friday, stop part way I got asked to fly trials chase on Friday. So, I changed my plans then didn't fly at-all Friday since the Wx was **** down south.
So, plan B, fly up on Saturday morning. Guess what, 300ft- overcast. Went back to bed, got up again, had a leisurely bath with an improving book, looked out of the window about 11am and thought - &*&**^*& me, it's flyable.
However Popham-Sherburn-Popham in the time remaining seems a tad optimistic. So I had a one man fly-in to Compton Abbas for a delightful lunch. In the queue at the bar I was spotted by a bearded gent (apologies, didn't get / forgot his name, sorry) who greeted me with "hello Genghis what are you doing here".
So, I formally declare Compton Abbas the new poor weather diversion airfield for Sherburn-in-Elmett and suggest we use that for a follow-up SW fly-in. The new Falcon hangar is worth seeing, as is the now-daily airfield (tethered !) falconry demonstration.
