You are correct in as much as, the new pay system now allows those who were driven purely by money, to now bid for lifestyle factors.

However, you would be wrong to think that meant ultra long haul is unpopular.

Fewest days at work in any given month, would probably be most people's lifestyle choice. Therefore, many longer trips (though not necessarily ULH) can be quite 'credit effecient.'

Certain destinations will also be particularly appealing to some, regardless of credit.

The unpopular places tend to be, the Gulf to an extent, but mainly 3 day US trips. Partly because they are knackering when flown with 2 crew, partly because they tend to be low credit, and partly because they tend to be pretty uninteresting (unless you enjoy shopping) Consequently, junior guys would probably expect around 5 EWR, IAD, PHL, ATL, ORD, or the like on their line in any given month.

Incidentally, 'flight pay', and 'Time Away From Base' pay, are two different payments.
