It's actually St. John's in Newfoundland. (With the apostrophe) Many place names in Newfoundland are "possessive".
Having said that, I don't think the airline is ultimately responsibly for passengers who get on the wrong airplane. They share the blame of course but you need to take a little responsibility for your travel.
