No, your friend is incorrect.
Indicated airspeed (IAS) +- instrument, position and calibration errors ---> Calibrated airspeed (CAS)
CAS +- density correction ---> True airspeed (TAS)
TAS +- head/tailwind component ----> Ground speed (GS).
