It's not right you should be asked to pay for any training.
Having said that, sometimes you have no choice to get ahead when you are trying to get experience and it sounds like a reasonable proposition if it's a reputable operator.
It may be an old Aircraft but it's a lovely one to fly and it is still valuable jet time.
