I'm not sure you'll get a satisfactory or a full answer to this.
As I'm sure you recall for obvious reasons airline staff are in general forbidden from discussing security matters/procedures. For the same reason I doubt the airline or the CAA are going to tell you whether or not the crew's actions were appropriate in the circumstances.
