Red face PPRuNE TEP Sponsorship scheme??

This thread follows the one regarding cancellation of the Malgus sponsorship and suggestions that PPRUNE might take on a similar task.

Call me selfish, but in line with EGDR I don't think it is forthcoming or helpful to think that a PPRUNE sponsorship will happen. Although it would be fantastic to find a number of individuals who would be happy to sponsor some money towards the scheme, I just don't think this is a very realistic idea. Okay - so a third of registered members (around 10,000) pay £20 for maybe 4-5 sponsorships? How would this money be obtained? How would so many people be convinved to pay, no matter be reached? I don't think there's any hope of convincing that many people to do so.

If PPRUNE only sponsored one person every year (or so), there would still be a requirement to find a sufficient number of people to account for the amount of around £40,000 (minimum), and no matter what the balance between "funding individuals" and "amount individually contributed", this amount, I feel, can't be raised at the moment. (Also see recent post of InFinRetirement)

Don't get me wrong. PPRUNE is a great place to get advice and information for wannabes which may nowhere else be obtainable. But trying to bring this gigantic new aspect into it may neither be realistic nor helpful to the majority of wannabes who would never benefit from it.

After all, in order to be fair, any PPRUNE selection procedure would have to reflect those already employed by the airlines who have traditionally had TEP schemes. So why contribute money towards the training of one person if they may get in anyway if they apply for a TEP scheme?

I agree - a great idea in principle, but I think PPRUNE should stick to what it does best. Helping wannbes with the best information and advice, not by implementing a questionable scheme with questionable benefits to the majority of its members.

if I'm wrong, i shall be happy to contribute to the PPRUNE TEP fund!
