With no registration laws and criminals pretty much by definition answering "no" to that question it's unlikely to be able to get any real idea. The closest I can find is a "households with guns" figure year on year for the US:
It's not really comparable for other countries due to the reasons stated above, but any confounds like that are likely to be consistent, so it is reasonable to say there is a year-on-year decline in numbers.
