Sweden

Firstly, you will need a transponder!

I flew across to Barkaby last June for the EAA Fly-In - a mini PFA Rally.

Sweden - especially the east coast - is a beautiful country.

They all speak English and fuel is 40p per litre so don't gas up in Germany just before you cross into Sweden - plan your fuel uplifts, especially if your whizzer is a bit thirsty.

I stopped over en-route at Eksjo - they have bunks and a fridge full of beer in the clubhouse!

Why not offer to meet him at Eksjo - he runs the flying club there - and ask him to accompany you on a trip?

I visited Norrkoping - the wartime base of my old wooden plane - and met some wonderful guys there, including somebody who let me play with his Teal Amphibian. They operate a Vampire too. THe club is bloke heaven. How many members? Six!

Apparently - most of the 10,000 lakes in Sweden can be landed upon - skis or floats - without any special permission.

It can be unnerving over Sweden because most of it is either lake or 'Ikea plantation'. Those pine trees look to be 200ft high. The best advice is to go for the edge of a lake if the donkey stops - you will be blessed indeed if you can find a suitable field or a road.

I therefore advise you to wear a life jacket at all times over the forests.

A trip down the coast is an absolute must - awesome.
