I am sure that any sensible airline would not expect its flight to be accepted as a diversion where the preferred diversionary airport knew it was unable to provide a satisfactory service to its passengers. The days of cramming aircraft in just because an airport is open have long gone (as expressflight points out). Except force majeure of course and there was no question of that last night.

Where SEN might be able to help itself is over provision of stands. Three stands are NOTAM'd as U/S on an ongoing basis. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe these stands are being used for parking of ground equipment. Can they be brought back into service on a short term basis for smaller aircraft ? If not it seems a waste of resource that could be addressed by provision of dedicated equipment parking areas.
