If all applicants are now going through VARA then VA is going to have a hard time poaching guys from the ADF... That's a pretty hefty pay cut for a senior FLTLT/SQNLDR to take...
I don't think there is any shortage of experienced jet drivers (CX EK) wanting to come home so I doubt recruiters at major Airline would notice. Then again, given growth is slowing and times to seat changes would be best measured in decades perhaps they are now targeting younger applicants.

I think what is happening is that recruitment/growth is gradually returning to a more normal airline level. It's akin to something that you would have seen in the Ansett days. Many of my colleagues that worked there flew the turbo props before the jets.
