Mate I am also working in Indonesia right now and it is more than a couple of k that you earn.
Entry level captains are earning around 50k USD after tax, no cost of living as food and accommodation is paid for, and working a 4 week on 2 week off rotation with Susi Air, and other companies have negotiable contracts...with the exception of AMA and MAF.

Living standards are only as poor as you make them. Both Susi and Dimonim air have better than average bases. While its not 5 star accommodation, its not much different to what you experience living in Africa.
This is based off of the 2yrs I spent living in Botswana.

I'm not sure what regulations you are talking about with it becoming tough. All I have to do is keep my home licence current and all is good. The company takes care of the rest.

Get recurrent on the 737 (only about 3-4months working wage in papua) and then call lion air again. They are bleeding pilots.
