There's a 'story' that either 1 or 54 Hunters at West Raynham were tasked with an exercise to fly a low level route for an hour in a stream and to have the height measured by theodolite as they crossed the 'finishing line' in order to see what practical levels could be achieved over a significant time. Someone went past the theodolite below the level of the lens.
