Forget IOS 8 for a while.
Why ? Sounds awfully like someone has an unnecessary chip on their shoulder...
I've upgraded to iOS 8, no issues and am enjoying the new functionality.... there's lots of great stuff in there !
Third-party swipe keyboards are also quite fun ! Although the new standard built-in Apple QuickType keyboard with enhanced predictive text is likely to be good enough for me....
