There was an interesting documentary on Bomber Command on Discovery last night.
One pearl of wisdom was that, if jettisoning bombs, the rule-of-thumb was that you needed 1,000' of altitude per 1,000-lb of bomb-size.
Not a problem with a load of 500-pounders, but the crew of the damaged Lanc in question were limping along at 3,000'....... with a 8,000-lb bomb.
