I guess you are logged on. This reduces the exposure to ads.
I use Firefox 32.0 with AdBlock Plus 2.6.4
Same OS as you, i5 Toshiba laptop.
AVG Anti Virus Free.
Weekly scans with CCleaner and MBAM.

No ads get through.
