Its not that he's Irish...
...its that he is an Irish joke. Joyce does not have an Irish accent in fact, he has an Irish speech impediment. I lived in Dublin for a year and never heard a Paddy parody done the way Joyce speaks normally. The man is a walking embarassment to any who would claim him.
That said, allow me to also point out that Australia proudly owes much of our make-up to the Irish. There just happens to be that one that we would be delighted to repatriate, post paid.
