PIC or not ?

After a longish medical timeout I am somewhat short of hours to revalidate my rapidly expiring EASA PPL. I am mostly flying in the US on a 61.75. Under FAA regulations PIC towards a rating or renewal may be logged if sole manipulator of the controls and if rated for the aircraft. In fact the Instructor in these circumstances does not even have to have a medical.

Do EASA (or more practically examiners) accept these hours as PIC for the purposes of a revalidation.
