Don't forget that approximately 35% of the headline number will be one-off redunancy payments which they have ramrodded through to show in this year's results.

The article linked above cites an unamed analyist calling for Qantas to shed most of its international routes, but fails to explore that idea further. The viability of Qantas without a significant international route structure is much less than certain.

As has amply been listed before, the magnitude of the international losses can (and then some) be shown to be the result of management intransigence regarding its fleet choices and its pathalogical fascination with all things non-Qantas (the various Jetstars, Cohbram, Lockouts, Qantas angels (FFS), QSA, The Urgent need for 3 Billion/ "No need for cash here folks" a week later spectacle// lounges ¡si! Aeroplanes ¡no!// Etc...
