Volcanologist Haraldur Siguršsson claimed that it is possible that the underground magma from Bįršarbunga may seep into the volcanic system of Askja volcano and ignite a powerful eruption in that region. Still, he thinks it is more likely that the current activity will not lead to any activity above ground.
