Crew Rest areas
Our company has recently started operating A340's on long haul, none of our previous types had a dedicated crew rest area, this one does and is used at times when extra crew is needed for delayed or extended sector times. What I'm interested in is how this area is managed when not required for relief crew to take an in flight rest. We are allowed to use it, if the flight is overbooked and wish to use the two seats in it to help out our colleagues, but have been having a problem of late when the area is used as storage for old newspapers, blankets etc. which then makes the bunks dirty and uncomfortable to use when required. The company is about to institute a ban on the use of this area because of the misconduct of a few which will hurt the rest in the long run. Was told by a Singapore Airways captain that their crew rest areas are off limits to all except for use as a crew rest area Would appreciate responses from crew on long haul airlines who operate types with crew rest areas.
