The short answer is yes, but - -. As pointed out above for an ATP with a type rating there has to be a record of ground and flight training by an authorized instructor. In order to used a sim for training it has to be part of a 121, 135 or 142 training program. They all have set syllabuses you would have to fit into. You should contact the training center you plan to use and ask them. They should have a short type rating course. Probably a few more days than the recurrent class but as you say, easier than getting back into a light twin.
