Recently, a SA Airbus 340 encountered severe turbulence while enroute from South Africa to Hong Kong. While that may not seem unusual, I am puzzled by the fact that they continued on to HK. The severe turbulence occured over Malaysia. Wouldn't diverting to KL been a more appropriate call. With over 14 ambulances and a special HK trauma unit dispatched to the aircraft after landing, I am struggling to find a reason why they elected to continue. I do have zero airline flying experience, all mine has been in corporate equipment, but still seems like a no brainer when passengers actually were injured and many hurt bad enough to warrant hospital stays.
