Mr Angry, in response to "how about the fact you get a basic salary or have you forgot about that minor point?" - Going by the same logic, why do companies all over the world have standby pay, sector pay, per-diems, overnight pay ...etc...etc? Basic pay makes up a portion of your overall pay with all the additional duty pay making up the rest of your overall package.
"Sector pay", "per diem", "overnight pay" ... Are these not all one and the same thing and basically boil down to an "away from base allowance" for subsistence or whatever?

Office staff need to go in to the airport for duty daily, they are at home base so no allowance is applicable but should they be sent away home from base then, of course, they should be paid an "away from base allowance".

Why is it so many aircrew believe they live by a different set of rules to the rest of the human race, whether it be a classroom training duty, an admin day, or indeed a home base airport standby, why do aircrew expect an addition payment to their salary every time they set foot from their front door heading in the direction of their employer?
