But still we'll have guys doing SE taxi, idle reverse, and the many other areas a pro can help save money. And rightly so, hats off to those true believers amongst us.

Very short sighted decision IMHO, sharp practice to keep the minions in their place. Good that the schooling, housing allowances have increased, not by enough, but at least thats something.
As ever this just smells bad, and any perceived budgeted savings made by specific departments are going to be more than offset by demotivated and disengaged staff, staff whom will quickly weigh up the value of their efforts vs the value of their remuneration, particularly when faced with a non-safety related customer issue. The cost of everything and the value of nothing.
