Some non rated guys were offered spots on the ATR as FO's. They had over the 1500 hour TT mark and most had some Caravan/King Air/Navajo or similar experience. They were all required to self fund a type rating.
ATR ratings aren't cheap and the low salary on offer left most to have to say "no thanks" to the offer.
