You mean huge potential to fix the problems that have been dogging it and delayed the Final Operational Capability.
FOC is as much about manning and support as it is about aircraft performance. If Australia had as much money to throw at the project as the USN have done for the P-8, then yes, we would have had a more capable aircraft than we currenly have, but it would also cost a significant amount more. Compared to some recent UK procurement projects, Australia has now got a world leading capability for a 'fixed price' contract, good value in other words.
As regards to future potential, I will leave that to your imagination, but potential there certainly is!
