Never met the chap, but always impressed. Victim of his senior officers' incompetence. Doesn't seem to bear a grudge though, much to his credit. Well done Taff!

Without detracting in any way from Simon Weston's undoubted courage, fortitude and outstanding services to charitable causes, the reference to "senior officers' incompetence" suggests a lack of awareness of the full story surrounding the efforts made to encourage the Welsh Guards to disembark from RFA SIR GALAHAD before the cloud cover cleared. That said, thoroughly agree with suggestions that he is well worthy of a higher honour.

On a lighter note, the selection of Simon's portrait to be displayed in the National Portrait Gallery justifiably gives the lie to the expression that someone "is no oil painting"!
