Yes, I've a friend who does it this way: looks really easy to do, but somehow I can never seem to write clearly enough, or pick the right colours, to stand out against the background map clutter!
And its OK on the laminated UK maps, but how do you manage this when using foreign maps which in my experience are generally paper based (France, the Jeppesen Maps, Australia...)
