I learned VOR nav for my night and VFR-OTT ratings, but the airplanes I fly are considered unusually well-equipped if they have a functional DG, so usually it's pure pilotage for me.
Last year I used a GPS for the first time, while flying in Oz with
GOANA ... pretty slick, but once we were airborne I was forbidden by Mrs. MLS to touch any of the buttons, for fear that I would inadvertantly shut it down and the plane would fall out of the sky!
