The PM made a speech the other day about 8000 jobs in the Midlands being created of which 4000 will be at the airport. Can anyone explain what positions these will be?
At the moment they are little more than a
PR man's spin - based on nothing, and just intended on producing a good sound bite for the boss!
When you look at how jobs are being lost through "efficiencies" such as self check in and online check in, which will pretty soon virtually render check in staff extinct; and add to that the self service processing through the boarding gates that will surely follow, unless some new kinds of jobs are going to be invented at airports employment will more likely fall than rise.
Even retailers in the dreaded shopping malls on airports will employ more and more of those confounded self checkout machine (unidentifed chick-lit in the bagging area!!!).
As Ricky Tomlinson might have said - "more jobs my ar@e"!
