There was a small wartime airfield at Hastings which held an 'air display' just post-war where I watched a Spitfire doing the usual 'rookie-pilot routine' and two Spits approaching to land from either end of the field. All part of the entertainment.
The site, Pebsham, at the St. Leonards end of town, is probably a housing estate by now!
