It's arguable to say you'd be more marketable with a Boeing or Airbus rating because a naked type rating with no time on type still leaves you with next to no chance of employment in the current market. For example I passed recruitment at a major British/European low cost operator last summer during a time in which, as circumstances would have it, I had just done an A320 rating and turned up to the interview four days after the base training (a long and involved story which would almost certainly reveal my identity, if I haven't already!) They would not entertain employing me until I had 500 on type. As a consequence I now sit in the pool (have the hours now though).

The long and the short of it? Be very careful forking out for ratings with no job offer attached as no time on type means no mans land.
