If you want to succeed in aviation it's up to you.
Just like any successful cross country you need a flight plan.
You can solicit as much advice as you like from those around you and end up discouraged and feeling like a failure.
YOU need to come up with a career plan (a flight plan if you prefer) that fulfills your aims and goals. Remember this above all else. Your luck is your luck. Not mine or the next guys. It entirely up to you.
In most cases the ones giving you advice are the ones sitting around the flying club in the same boat with not much more than you on offer and still looking themselves.
Instructing is a great time builder but be the best f**kin' instructor you can be and you'll be remembered as that.
Define the time period you expect to be instructing and know when you need to move on and to what?
You're the master of your own fate. Choose your advisors wisely.

FWIW
Instructors are in demand and that demand is only getting stronger. At your age, if it's what you choose to do, do it for a limited time and move on. Calculate your shelf life for each stage and you'll get to where you're trying to go.

Good luck.
