As you will remember, the TFO/observer would contact control at the commencement and completion of each task to update position and intention and for control to update the log for each event, certainly the units I've served on would not take off or land unless the call had been made and aknowledged by the controller. I assume that in time, perhaps at the coroners inquests, the full details of the police communications will be revealed. I'm not sure it's going to be revealed in the AAIB report.
