You can mitigate the impact of that. A personal pension contribution chips away at the income used to work out your child benefit payment, starting at £50k and tapering down to zero assistance at £60k. In effect, it means that if you recover the entire amount of your child benefit via pension contributions, tax relief on those contributions approaches 60%.
Never do something financial just for the tax reasons though. But it helps!
