I often wonder what the JAA examiners are actually after.

The multi-guess format always makes exams easier and makes question spoting possible; now as professionals we are obviously not going to stoop to question-spotting BUT :-

a proportion of JAA questions have no right or wrong answers but a more right or least wrong answer, and in some cases it depends upon the inflection or interpretation of the question.

In these cases applied knowledge may not work and learning the correct response (answer) probably will.

If the CAA truly wanted to test an individual's knowledge surely long answer questions should be set?
