As you no doubt know the airlines will choose to use the jetstream if possible as this will save time and reduce fuel costs. Riding the jetstream can sometimes be a little bit on the bumpy side depending on different factors. It may also have been due to flying in, or riding the tops of, high cloud over the Atlantic.
