Thanks ORAC, I had come across that site but...since I'm doing this for a client I really don't want to go down the path of fiddling about with the registry and what-not...it's bound to end in failure.
So, I might go down Keef's path and replace the drive - I have an HP too, and save some small issues when I upgraded to Win 2K it has worked well so far.
