There is no such thing as a 'CAA' IR. For a few years now the UK IR Skill Test has been JAR compliant and the rating thus obtained could be added to either a UK national or a JAA licence.. .. .The critical thing about 30 June is that after that date, the UK CAA are prohibited by law from issuing UK national licences. They can and will continue to maintain those licences and to add ratings to them unless and until prohibited by EU law (which, with the introduction of EASA, may not be too far distant).. .. .Provided that the UK national CPL is issued prior to 1 July, you will (EU law aside) be able subsequently to add an IR to it. You will not, however, then be able to obtain a UK national ATPL although any UK national ATPL theoretical examination credits will remain valid for the issue of a multi-crew type rating and, subject to currency and EU law, for the issue of a JAA ATPL.
