Using the compass tests for experienced aircrew is totally inappropriate the tests are intended to find out if the candidate is a training risk for a basic flying course, the candidate is expected to be a young person just out of school and of the play station generation.

So why put very experienced pilots who represent a close to zero training risk and are thirty years away from academic study and have never seen a play station to this type of testing ?

I can only think of one reason.

In my opinion it is because they need a pass/fail test that gives results that are totaly free of any subjective reasoning thus avoiding any chance of the company being accused ( possibly in court ) of any racist or sexist bias, the only problem is that the test is by it's very nature mature middle age people with years of experience in the industry are the poorest placed to get a good result.

Were I come from we call it politicly correct bull****.............. The left wingers lawyers call it age discrimination and it will only be a matter of time before this sort of testing comes back to bite in the form of a court case, that will just be the cherry on the self imposed pilot shortage cake that the so called HR professionals have baked.

No doubt Artie will put this down as me being sore at the EXS HR people but I find that I have the same opinion of the goings on as some within the EXS training system and I thank them for the encouragement and support. It takes a very gifted HR person to understand pilot recruitment, there are a few in the industry and I can count them on the fingers of one hand........ Apparently none of them have ventured north of Luton or south of Oslo.
