If you were a little closer to what's going on you'd know we're heading towards a "grand bargain" where all three party leaders endorse the commision's call for an expanded LHR in the national interest and take the politics out of it finally. Discussion on the beeb (R5) has suggested that the growth in recent years has been attributable to LoCos. Diverting these to Gatwick (and Stansted) - with, perhaps, a further runway for Gatwick, might release sufficient slots from Heathrow to obviate the need for expansion there.
