To answer the last part of your question..........Yes.
Most liveries these days are a painted base colour or two, with the plimsoll lines & logos etc. just stuck on.
A good example is bmi's Airbus Fleet where the 'Star Alliance' company logos down the sides are all transfers, and can be removed overnight. They are referred to as the 'Washing Line' or 'Beermats'
